Farook Higher Secondary School from Kerala grabbed the spotlight at the 64th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, winning the Junior Boys (U17) title with a solid 2-0 victory over Amenity Public School (CBSE) in New Delhi on Thursday. Takhellamba netted the opener in the 20th minute, and Adikrishna sealed the win with a goal in the 62nd at Ambedkar Stadium.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff and Chairman of the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society, handed over the trophy to the champions alongside Olympian shooter Divyansh Singh Panwar, the guest of honor for the finals.
In his speech at the prize distribution, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh celebrated the tournament’s impact. “It’s been an amazing journey wrapping up the 64th Subroto Cup,” he said. “This event keeps shining as a top platform for young football talent in India. We’ve seen some real stars emerge this year, and I’m sure many will play for the country one day. Congrats to the Junior Boys winners, plus the champs in Junior Girls and Sub-Junior Boys. Every player showed huge commitment, and we’re gearing up to make next year’s Subroto Cup even bigger for grassroots football.”
The winning team pocketed Rs 500,000, while runners-up Amenity Public School took home Rs 300,000. Losing semi-finalists each got Rs 75,000, and quarter-finalists received Rs 40,000 apiece. Organizers played out 75 thrilling matches across four Delhi venues: Tejas Football Ground, Ambedkar Stadium, Pinto Park Football Ground, and Subroto Park Football Ground.
In other action, Betkuchi High School from Assam triumphed in the Junior Girls (U17) category, edging out Nandajhar Adibashi Pashili High School from West Bengal. Meanwhile, Minerva Public School (CISCE) claimed the Sub-Junior Boys (U15) crown by beating Vidyachal International School from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, in the Bengaluru finals.
Individual honors highlighted top performers: Adikrishna from Farook Higher Secondary School earned Best Player (Rs 40,000), Shyam Chaudhary from Amenity Public School snagged Best Goalkeeper (Rs 25,000), and coach Suneer VP from Farook took Best Coach (Rs 25,000). Government Model Senior Secondary School from Andaman & Nicobar Islands won the Fair Play Award (Rs 50,000), and Amenity Public School rounded out as Best School (Rs 40,000).
