Jaipur, Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – In the final day of the 2025 Khelo India University Games (KIUG), the competition at the “Sawai Man Singh Stadium” in Jaipur culminated in a flurry of record‑setting performances. Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology’s (KIIT) Samardeep Singh Gill took the men’s shot put crown, surpassing his own All India University (AIU) record. Isha Chander Prakash lit up the women’s heptathlon with a new meet record, and the KIIT 4×100 m relay team set a fresh record for the event.

The fifth edition of the KIUG is being staged across seven Rajasthani cities. A total of 4,448 athletes from 222 universities will contest 23 medal events. The Games are organized under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council, with Poornima University acting as host. With only one day of competition remaining, Chandigarh University’s podium sweep in canoe and kayaking has boosted its medal tally to 41 golds, cementing its position atop the table. The university’s canoe and kayak supremacy was complemented by the creation of three new athletics records over the four‑day span, bringing the total to 12.

Samardeep Singh – a 19‑metre sharpshooter who has outperformed two‑time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor on three separate occasions this season – launched his world‑class throw on his second attempt. He landed the shot put at 19.42 m, eclipsing the previous AIU mark of 18.76 m and the KIUG record of 18.75 m. “I came here to perform for my University as I am doing my Master’s of Physical Education from there,” the 24‑year‑old said to SAI Media. “Before arriving, I also had an ankle injury, but I am happy to maintain my consistency here.” He previously registered a personal best of 19.82 m at National Inter‑State Championships in Chennai.

Samardeep’s teammate, Isha Chander Prakash, carved a new KIUG heptathlon record with a score of 4,857 points. After establishing a decisive lead on the first day of the competition, she maintained it on the second day, eclipsing the standing record by 109 points. The former record was held by Sonu Kumari of Lovely Professional University.

Olympian Animesh Kujur brought the KIIT delegation to a high note with a 4×100 m meet record of 40.09 s, finishing ahead of the Mahatma Gandhi University squad, who matched the previous record of 40.76 s set by Mangalore University.

In Udaipur, Chandigarh University secured an additional seven gold medals during the final canoe and kayaking session at Fateh Sagar Lake, finishing the Games with 23 golds, one silver and one bronze in the discipline. Guru Kashi University also finished among the top teams, claiming three golds, one silver and three bronze medals.

Football fans witnessed a dramatic finale when the University of Calicut edged past Guru Nanak Dev University 5‑4 in a penalty shoot‑out, the match having ended 0‑0 after regular time.
