Anil Kumble has praised cricketer Kul Yadav after the spinner’s first‑innings five‑wicket haul in India’s second Test in Delhi against the West Indies. Kul Yadav’s 5‑82 lifted India to a commanding lead, and Kumble said the bowler “demonstrated match‑winning ability” even with limited game time.

During the match, Kul Yadav was the star of India’s attack. He took five wickets for 82 runs, turning a West Indies 156/4 position into a complete 248 all‑out total. The bowling was backed up by steady work from Ravindra Jadeja (3‑46) and a main‑stay 1‑10 from Mohammed Siraj. India’s strong batting line‑up put the visitors under pressure too. Yashasvi Jaiswal made 175, Shubman Gill added 129*, and the team declared at 518/5. Bumrah and Siraj also grabbed wickets, tightening the noose on the Caribbean side.

The West Indies had a blink‑of‑an eye partnership after the follow‑on – a 138‑run third‑wicket stand between John Campbell (87) and Shai Hope (66). Nevertheless, Kul Yadav bowled in the middle of this partnership and trapped Hope for 36 in 57 balls. His figure of 5‑82 forced the West Indies to all‑out 248 in 81.5 overs, leaving them 173/2 as India marched to a win.

Kumble described the 138‑run partnership as “flair of West Indies cricket” and praised Kul Yadav’s control and composure. He also noted that the lower order of the West Indies had shown “caution with aggression” but were ultimately beaten by the India bowling unit.

Kul Yadav has played just 15 Tests for India since his debut in 2017, but his 65 wickets at an average of 21.90 prove his value. He is only the second top wicket‑taker behind Mohammed Siraj, who has 35 wickets at 18.71 in 16 matches this year.

This Test comes after India’s 0‑3 series loss to New Zealand and their recent 18‑wicket win in the Asia Cup. It also follows a tour of England where Kul Yadav was in the squad but missed the five Tests. As India looks to regain momentum, Kumble believes Kul Yadav will be central to the team’s bowling strategy.
