Mumbai Indians have named former Australian cricketer Lisa Keightley as the new head coach of their women’s team. The franchise shared the exciting news on their official website Thursday, marking a fresh start for the powerhouse squad in women’s cricket.
Keightley steps in after Charlotte Edwards left to take the reins of the England Women’s team. A two-time World Cup winner with Australia in 1997 and 2005, Keightley brings a wealth of experience to the role. She’s coached top teams like Australia and England—making her the first woman to serve as full-time head coach for England Women. Her resume also shines in global leagues, including the Women’s Big Bash League, The Hundred, and the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Just last month, she led the Northern Superchargers to victory in The Hundred’s women’s competition.
As a stylish opening batter during her playing days, Keightley represented Australia in 9 Tests, 82 ODIs, and 1 T20I. Now, she’s ready to guide Mumbai Indians Women, the most dominant team in WPL history. They’ve claimed two titles in just three seasons, lifting the trophy in the 2023 inaugural edition and again in 2025.
Nita M. Ambani, a key figure in the franchise, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome Lisa Keightley to the Mumbai Indians family. A trailblazer in women’s cricket, Lisa has inspired generations with her passion, expertise, and pioneering spirit. Her arrival marks an exciting new chapter for Mumbai Indians as we look to scale even greater heights and build on our legacy of excellence.”
Keightley shared her own excitement: “It’s an honor to join the Mumbai Indians, a team that has set the benchmark in the WPL. The culture of excellence and care is something I deeply admire. I look forward to working with this talented group to build on our success and continue inspiring on and off the field.”
This appointment strengthens Mumbai Indians’ push to stay at the top of women’s cricket, blending Keightley’s global expertise with the team’s winning tradition.
