India’s promising A women’s hockey team is gearing up for an exciting tour of China, where they’ll face off in a five-match series against Liaoning at the Liaoning Sports Centre in Dalian. The action kicks off October 13 and runs through October 21, with games scheduled on the 13th, 15th, 17th, 19th, and 21st.
This squad blends seasoned players with fresh talent, including several young stars who’ve recently shone at the national level in Indian women’s hockey. Leading the charge is defender Manisha Chauhan, a veteran with strong leadership skills and a sharp tactical mind.
At the helm as coach is Dave Smolenaars, the analytical guru for the Indian women’s team. He’ll bring his expertise in tactics and player growth to help the team thrive.
Smolenaars is pumped about the trip. “We’ve put together a solid young squad full of potential,” he said. “This series in China gives them a perfect stage to show what they can do, learn in a fresh setting, and gain real international experience. I’m sure their drive and teamwork will help them seize this chance.
“It’s vital for Indian women’s hockey development to keep pushing players with tough challenges outside their usual zone. The takeaways from this China tour will boost their overall growth and poise under pressure.”
Hockey India views this as a major step in building the women’s program. It lets emerging athletes tackle international conditions head-on, sharpening their skills for bigger tournaments ahead. The effort underscores Hockey India’s dedication to nurturing future stars and strengthening the team’s depth.
