Madhya Pradesh: Illegal alcohol worth Rs 24 lakh seized in Indore

Big Haul in Indore: Excise Team Busts Truck Loaded with Illegal Liquor

In a major crackdown on illegal alcohol smuggling, the Indore Excise department seized over 500 cartons of booze worth Rs 24 lakh from a truck near Mewara village in the Betma police station area. Officials shared the details on Wednesday, highlighting how the truck tried to fool everyone by hiding the contraband under animal fodder.

Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari explained to reporters that the vehicle carried around 200 cartons of beer and 304 cartons of Goa whiskey. "The total value of the seized alcohol and the truck comes to about Rs 40 lakh," he added. The team stopped the truck and uncovered the sneaky setup, but no one got arrested on the spot. Right now, they’re working hard to trace where the illegal liquor came from and hunt down the driver who fled the scene.

This bust comes amid Madhya Pradesh’s strict liquor ban in 19 key religious and cultural spots, enforced since April 1. The ban covers places like Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, and Amarkantak. It also includes gram panchayat areas such as Salkanpur, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, Barmankalan, Barmankhurd, and Linga. One municipal corporation, six municipal councils, six city councils, and six gram panchayats fall under these dry zones to respect local traditions.

Delhi Cops Nab Smugglers on Camels with Illicit Liquor

Meanwhile, in a quirky twist, Delhi police arrested five people for sneaking illegal liquor from Faridabad into the capital—using camels, no less! The raid netted 42 cartons with 1,990 quarters of illicit booze, plus 24 bottles of beer.

The cops set up a trap and spotted the group riding in on the camels. They swooped in quickly, grabbed the suspects, and seized the goods right there. "All five got caught on the spot," officials said. The camels, which the smugglers used for the odd transport job, got rescued and handed over to animal welfare groups for their safety.

These incidents show how authorities are ramping up efforts against illegal alcohol smuggling across India, especially in dry zones and border areas. Stay tuned for updates on the Indore probe!
