Marnus Labuschagne scored 160 on his return to Queensland cricket at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field, giving the side a huge 612‑run total against Tasmania in the current Sheffield Shield. The former world No. 1 Test batsman rebuilt his confidence after being dropped from the Australian Test XI during the recent West Indies series.

Labuschagne’s 160 came off 206 balls and included two sixes and 17 fours. He opened the second‑innings partnership with Matt Renshaw, who also hit a century (128), adding 134 runs for the second wicket. After Renshaw’s dismissal, Labuschagne joined Jack Clayton (59) and together they added another 156 runs before Bennett’s final wicket.

Queensland’s massive score gave them a 233‑run lead, putting Tasmania on the back foot early on. Labuschagne made his first international century in September 2023 against South Africa. Since then, he has played 16 Tests and 30 innings without a hundred, amassing 668 runs at 24.74 with seven fifties and a best of 90. In his last 49 international matches he has managed only 12 fifties and no centuries, averaging 28.74.

While Labuschagne is fighting to regain his form, other Queensland aspirants also struggle. Sam Konstas had a rough start to the Shield season, falling for only four runs off 25 balls against New South Wales in Perth. He tried again on Day 3 of the same match but was dismissed for 14 runs off 15 balls.

Queensland’s strong batting display and Labuschagne’s heroic innings suggest the side is on track to dominate the rest of the Sheffield Shield, while Labuschagne looks ready to re‑enter the Australian Test conversation.
