Mithun Manhas, a former Delhi cricketer, steps up as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The announcement came during the board’s Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, marking an exciting moment for Indian cricket fans.
Roger Binny left the president’s role in August 2025, leaving Rajeev Shukla to serve as interim head. Now, Manhas joins an elite group—he’s only the third former player to lead the BCCI, following Sourav Ganguly and Binny.
Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh celebrated the news on X, calling it “a momentous occasion.” He highlighted Manhas’s roots in Doda, a remote district in Jammu and Kashmir that also happens to be his own hometown. “What a providential Sunday for the erstwhile district of Doda,” Singh posted.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) nominated the 45-year-old Manhas, who emerged as the top choice after key Indian cricket leaders met informally last Saturday. Known for his steady personality and deep knowledge of grassroots cricket, Manhas has stayed involved in the sport through coaching since hanging up his boots.
Manhas built a solid career in domestic cricket, first with Delhi and later Jammu and Kashmir. In 147 first-class matches, he racked up 9,714 runs at an average of 45.82, including 27 centuries and 49 fifties. His standout season came in 2007-08, when he scored 921 runs at 57.56 average to help Delhi win the Ranji Trophy.
He also shone in limited-overs cricket, amassing 4,126 runs in 130 List A games at 45.84 average, with five centuries and 26 half-centuries. Plus, he picked up 75 wickets overall, including 40 in first-class play.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Manhas played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2014. Across 55 matches, he scored 514 runs at a strike rate of 109.36.
In other BCCI election updates, Rajeev Shukla returns as vice-president, and Devajit Saikia stays on as secretary. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia takes over as joint secretary from Rohan Gauns Desai, while Raghuram Bhat becomes the new treasurer.
This leadership shake-up comes at a pivotal time for the BCCI, as Indian cricket continues to grow on the global stage. Fans are eager to see how Manhas steers the board forward.
