Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for August, thanks to his game-changing performance in the thrilling Test series against England. His standout spell at The Oval helped Team India pull off a stunning victory and level the series 2-2.
In that decisive fifth Test, Siraj grabbed nine wickets across both innings at an impressive average of 21.11. He bowled a whopping 46 overs over the five days, including a fiery five-wicket haul in the second innings that turned the match on its head. No wonder he walked away with the Player of the Match honors too!
Siraj edged out New Zealand’s Matt Henry and West Indies’ Jayden Seales to claim the top spot in the ICC awards. As the only Indian fast bowler to play all five Tests in the grueling series, he topped the wicket charts with 23 scalps at an average of 32.43, featuring two five-wicket hauls. His relentless energy right until the last day made him a standout performer in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Reacting to the win, Siraj said in an ICC statement, “It’s a special honor to be named ICC Player of the Month. The series was memorable and one of the most intense I’ve played.” He added, “I’m proud of my key spells, especially in tough moments. Facing a strong England batting line-up on their home turf was challenging, but it pushed me to my best.”
Siraj didn’t stop there—he also jumped to a career-high ranking in the ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings after the series. This award is as much for his teammates and support staff, he noted, crediting their encouragement for keeping him sharp.
