Dhaka, Nov 4 – Bangladesh’s spin-bowling coach, former Pakistan star Mushtaq Ahmed, said Rishad Hossain is on track but still needs to sharpen new deliveries to stay competitive.
During a two‑day camp at Sher‑e‑Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Mushtaq praised Rishad’s growing leg‑spin and googly, as well as his developing all‑round skills. “He’s taking plenty of wickets for Bangladesh,” the coach told reporters. “Everyone wants to be like him—batting, bowling, and fielding.”
But Mushtaq urged Rishad to master the flipper, top‑spin and slider next. “If the basics are right, he can bowl all five, sometimes six, deliveries,” he explained. “Spin is the key to succeed on international pitches where turns are thin.”
The camp is part of Bangladesh’s effort to build a deeper spin pool. Mushtaq, who ran a similar program last year, is optimistic about the country’s future. “The depth in spin is improving,” he said. “We must protect our young spinners and keep their fundamentals strong.”
He added that confidence and motivation come from a solid process. “On good pitches, a player must rely on skill, not just spin. That comes from a strong foundation.”
Rishad Hossain’s progress, highlighted by the camp, shows Bangladesh’s commitment to developing top‑class leg‑spinners. The focus remains on technical precision and consistency, essential for thriving at the international level.
