On Thursday, the Indian Army partnered with an automobile firm to launch the Hornbill Motor Rally-2025 from Zakhama Military Station in Kohima district, Nagaland, officials said.
A defence spokesperson explained that the week‑long trek aims to deepen civil‑military ties in Nagaland and the Northeast, promoting peace, unity and national integration through adventure and cultural engagement.
The rally was officially started by the General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division, in the company of Army officers, civil dignitaries, local representatives and young volunteers, underscoring the collaboration between the Armed Forces and the people of Nagaland.
The theme this year is “Harmonising Adventure with Peace – Celebrating the Spirit of Hornbill,” drawing inspiration from the iconic Hornbill Festival and its celebration of courage, culture and camaraderie.
According to the spokesperson, the event will feature 35 soldiers from the Army and Assam Rifles, symbolizing strong camaraderie and an adventurous spirit. A total of 14 vehicles—both from the Army and the partnering auto company—will travel more than 1,150 kilometres.
The convoy will pass through key Naga villages such as Zakhama, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Shamatore, Jessami and Leimakhong before returning to Zakhama. The route showcases the region’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and resilient spirit. Along the way, participants will meet veterans and students, visit war memorials and explore heritage villages, blending adventure with patriotism and cultural immersion.
These efforts are intended to reinforce community bonds, promote eco‑tourism and inspire young people to take part in nation‑building activities.
Meanwhile, the 26th edition of the 10‑day Hornbill Festival, which runs concurrently with Statehood Day celebrations, will once again be staged at the picturesque Naga heritage village of Kisama from December 1 to 10.
Earlier this week, Nagaland’s Minister for Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, launched the Aerial Experience Rides – Helicopter Service for the upcoming Hornbill Festival 2025 at Lerie Helipad in Kohima.
