Egor Dëmin is not just “sitting on the couch” this summer. The 19‑year‑old 6‑foot‑8 guard, the Brooklyn Nets’ eighth pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, spent two months in the gym recovering from a plantar‑fasciitis injury and adding more than 10 pounds of muscle. He wants to be at least 205 lb before the rookie season starts so he can match the size and strength of NBA athletes while staying quick on the floor.
Dëmin made a promising preseason debut in Toronto, scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds in 19 minutes. He added a pair of three‑point shots, turning his college shooting percentage of 27.3 % into a solid 43.5 % during summer league play. The Nets’ rookie class now includes Nolan Traore (19th overall) and Ben Saraf (26th), and all three will vie for minutes under coach Jordi Fernández.
“We’re all working hard to get better,” Dëmin said. “I’m not just watching the game – I’m looking for ways to improve my shooting, my dribbling and my overall versatility. It’s a lot of lifting and practice, and it’s paying off.” His weight gain has helped him feel stronger defensively and more powerful offensively, and he feels ready to lead the Nets’ backcourt.
The Nets are building a young core with Dëmin as a key component. With other promising rookies, the team hopes his improved size, shooting, and work ethic will translate into a solid rookie season. This Saturday, the Nets open the NBA 2025 season in Charlotte, and Dëmin is eager to make his mark on the court for Brooklyn.
