Three activists strip at a Maine school board meeting in protest of trans athlete policy

Three activists took to the Augusta school board room this week and stripped to their underwear to protest a Maine policy that lets trans athletes compete in women’s teams. The show‑stopping stunt was led by local activist Nick Blanchard, who is also known as “Corn Pop.”

At the end of the board meeting, Blanchard and two other protestors—one man and two women—slowly removed their clothes in front of board members. “I’m about to show you how uncomfortable girls can feel when a boy walks into their locker room,” Blanchard shouted as the women slipped off their tops. “That’s what these girls feel every time a young boy changes in front of them.”

The crowd reacted in a mix of shock, eye‑rolling, and indifference. Some board members looked away while others stayed calm. Blanchard blamed the school board for ignoring girls’ comfort and urged Maine to set a stronger example: “We should be setting an example for the rest of the state. You know what example you guys are setting? That we do not care about the young girls in the rest of the state.”

After the protest went viral online, reporters from Central Maine noted that more than 150 people have reached out to Blanchard to support his stance on the Title IX issue. “Do I think these tactics change policy? Probably not,” he said, “but the only way to get them to listen is to do something crazy and get national attention.”

The board recently voted to keep its current policy, which follows the Maine Human Rights Act. That act allows a student athlete to play on the team that matches their gender identity. The policy aligns with President Trump’s February executive order that aims to keep biological men out of women’s sports under Title IX.

Maine is not alone in this line of protest. Earlier this fall, a mom named Beth Bourne in Davis, California, undressed to her underwear at a school board meeting to oppose letting transgender students use girls’ locker rooms. The strip‑protest technique is becoming a growing trend among those who want to pressure school districts to comply with Trump’s Title IX order.
