Nicholas Pooran Fined for Dissent in Thrilling CPL Eliminator
Cricket fans, get ready for some drama from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)! Nicholas Pooran, the explosive batsman for Trinbago Knight Riders, just faced a small hiccup. The CPL slapped him with a Level 1 offence under their Code of Conduct for showing dissent over an umpire’s call during the high-stakes Eliminator match against Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. Pooran owned up to it and accepted a fine of 20% of his match fee – nothing too serious, but a reminder to keep cool on the field.
Now, let’s dive into the match that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Trinbago Knight Riders pulled off a dominant nine-wicket victory over the Falcons, breathing new life into their Republic Bank CPL campaign. This win was massive, especially after the Knight Riders had stumbled with three straight losses coming into the game. They now chase their first CPL title since 2020.
The Falcons started strong with a solid 108-run partnership between Andries Gous and Amir Jangoo. Both crossed their fifties, making it look like a big total was on the cards. But things flipped quickly! Usman Tariq struck twice in two balls, sending both back to the pavilion. Tariq was on fire, finishing with impressive figures of 2/19 in four overs. From 129/1 with four overs left, the Falcons crumbled to 161/8, thanks to late wickets from Saurabh Netravalkar and the mighty Andre Russell. The Falcons must have felt gutted – they had the perfect platform but couldn’t capitalize.
Chasing 162, the Knight Riders lost their captain Colin Munro early to Rahkeem Cornwall’s bowling, giving the Falcons a glimmer of hope. But that was as good as it got for them. Enter Nicholas Pooran and Alex Hales! The duo turned the chase into a breeze with an unbroken 143-run second-wicket stand. Pooran smashed an unbeaten 90, while Hales notched up 54 not out. By the halfway mark, they needed just over a run a ball, and the pressure melted away. The Falcons’ bowlers couldn’t stem the flow, and the Knight Riders cruised home with overs to spare.
Pooran and Hales’ fireworks are a huge shot in the arm for the Knight Riders as the CPL knockout stages heat up. Their form could be the key to glory. On the flip side, the Falcons bow out proudly – this was their first-ever trip to the knockouts in CPL history.
What a rollercoaster! Stay tuned for more CPL action as the race for the title intensifies.
