During the Sprint Qualifying session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, British driver Lando Norris topped the timesheets and sealed pole position for McLaren.
Norris set an eye‑opening lap of 1:09.243 in the final round, beating his teammate Oscar Piastri and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli. Antonelli came close, only 0.097 seconds slower, and claimed second place on the front row.
Piastri, who had shown strong pace on Friday, could only manage third. Mercedes added a fourth position with George Russell, while the Formula One series welcomed the return of Fernando Alonso. Alonso took fifth, followed by Lance Stroll in seventh.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull crossed the line in sixth, looking a little disappointed as he finished just behind the Benetton‑Alpine car. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari took eighth, with Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar and Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg completing the top‑ten list.
The session saw Lewis Hamilton drop out of the Sprint Qualifying final rounds. He had been 11th after Sprint Qualifying 2 and will be investigated over a possible yellow‑flag infringement that occurred when teammate Leclerc spun.
Other drivers who failed to reach the final round included Williams’ Alex Albon, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto, and Haas’s Ollie Bearman. Franco Colapinto, newly confirmed to stay with Alpine in 2026, finished 16th – one spot ahead of Lawson from Racing Bulls. Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull ended Sprint Qualifying 1 in 18th place. Esteban Ocon of Haas was 19th, and Carlos Sainz finished last in the Williams car after a lock‑up on his final run.
