Venezuela denounces US ‘aggression’ after Trump’s post concerning its airspace

Caracas, Nov. 30 (LatestNewsX) – Venezuela’s government blasted a recent U.S. statement that “seeks to affect the sovereignty of its airspace,” labeling it “another extravagant, illegal and unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people.”

In an official release, Caracas rejected Washington’s attempt to impose extraterritorial jurisdiction over Venezuela, arguing that the U.S. action poses a direct threat to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Tensions between the two sides have escalated after President Donald Trump declared on Saturday that the airspace over and around Venezuela should be treated as completely closed. Trump’s post on Truth Social read: “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY,” without providing further detail.

The statement warned that the U.S. move effectively threatens the use of force, which the United Nations Charter forbids. Under the 1944 Chicago Convention, each state enjoys exclusive sovereignty over the airspace above its territory; therefore, Venezuela will not entertain “orders, threats or interference” from any foreign power.

The message called on the global community to firmly denounce this “immoral act of aggression” and highlighted that Venezuela will respond in a manner that is both legal and dignified.

The U.S. has been expanding its military footprint in the Caribbean, citing drug‑smuggling concerns, while Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro dismisses these accusations as a pretext for attempting to oust him.
