New Delhi, Oct 23 –
The UP Yoddhas edged past U Mumba 35‑32 at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium in Delhi, clinching a close win that kept them in the mix for the next round but still fell short of a top‑eight spot.
The match was a back‑and‑forth tangle of tackles and raids. Sumit Sangwan sparked the Yoddhas’ attack, collecting a “High Five” and multiple tackles. U Mumba’s Ajit Chouhan scored nine points in a single raid (a “Super 10”), while Rinku registered his own High Five. U Mumba struck early, with Vijay Kumar opening the game with a tackle and Ajit adding raid points to pull ahead 4‑0 before the first ten minutes.
The Yoddhas fought back when Surender Gill captured a Super Raid to tie 5‑5. Ashu Singh then scored his first tackle, giving the Yoddhas a brief 7‑5 lead. Rinku answered, taking U Mumba back into front with two Super Tackles to make the score 11‑7. Both teams slowed the pace in the second quarter, trading Do‑Or‑Die raids and tackles that kept the game tied at 17‑17 at halftime.
The second half grew more free‑wheeling. Surender Gill’s raid and tackle swung the momentum, allowing the Yoddhas to push ahead 27‑20. When U Mumba closed the gap to a single‑point game (31‑30) in the final minutes, the Yoddhas kept calm. Sumit’s tackles and a critical point from Bhavani Rajput sealed the final 35‑32 finish.
Key moments:
• Sumit Sangwan (High Five) – 12 points
• Ajit Chouhan (Super 10) – 10 points
• Rinku & Bhavani Rajput added clutch tackles in the closing seconds
The win moves the UP Yoddhas closer to a top‑four finish, but both sides will aim higher in the next round of the indoor kabaddi series.
