NCP-SP’s Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena-UBT’s Arvind Sawant support Rahul Gandhi’s ‘vote-chori’ charges, seek probe

In Mumbai, NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule and Shiv Sena-UBT leader Arvind Sawant came out strongly in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s explosive claims on voter manipulation in India. They called the allegations a “serious and painful” threat to democracy and urged a full probe into the matter.

Speaking to reporters, Sule praised Gandhi for spotlighting the issue with solid data and stats on alleged “vote-chori” (vote theft) in Karnataka’s Aland constituency during the 2023 Assembly elections. “Rahul Gandhi raised the right issue. This is a huge concern—are our voting rights being stolen? It’s painful for a healthy democracy,” she said.

When asked about similar voter fraud complaints from other areas, Sule pointed out that she and her party colleague Amol Kolhe had won comfortably from Baramati and Shirur. “Start the investigation with us, even though we won. This isn’t about Opposition versus the ruling party. We’re not just crying foul because we’re in the Opposition,” she added firmly.

Sule also hit back at the BJP’s accusations that Opposition leaders only raise voter manipulation cries after election losses and then jump ship to the ruling side. She blamed pressure from central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax for such defections. “We’ve all seen how aggressively these agencies targeted people. Things have cooled down a bit now, but we don’t have the BJP’s massive machinery,” she alleged. Stressing the gravity, Sule said, “On vote-chori, the data doesn’t lie.”

Echoing her, Shiv Sena-UBT MP Arvind Sawant backed Gandhi’s voter manipulation allegations and slammed the Election Commission of India (ECI) for lacking transparency. “Rahul Gandhi is showing clearly how vote-chori happens. In the Assembly polls, they added 40 lakh new voters, but the ECI won’t even release CCTV footage from polling stations after 5 p.m.,” Sawant told the media.

These statements followed Rahul Gandhi’s press conference in Delhi, where he accused the BJP and ECI of systemic tampering with voter rolls, including deleting thousands of votes in Aland. The controversy has sparked fresh debates on election integrity and voter fraud in India, with demands growing for a thorough Election Commission investigation.
