Kieron Pollard didn’t hold back after facing boos from the crowd during the thrilling CPL 2025 final. His team, the Trinbago Knight Riders, clinched the title with a narrow win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence Stadium in Guyana on September 22.
Even though Pollard has delivered big moments for West Indies cricket over the years, fans in parts of the Caribbean have often given him a rough welcome. Last year, during the CPL, he got booed at Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia while smashing an unbeaten half-century for TKR—despite once captaining St. Lucia’s side. The same thing happened in this final, but Pollard fired back with some honest words.
“Winning the CPL means a lot,” Pollard said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “But one thing I’ll say: There are three countries in the Caribbean where we’ve played, and the booing is boring now. We’re still the laughing stock of cricket in the West Indies. You have a guy who’s represented the entire Caribbean, putting them on the map in this format. Yet, we still don’t appreciate him. I’m not bitter, but I feel sorry—not for myself.”
He kept going: “Kieron Pollard plays cricket—that’s what I know. God gave me this talent, and I’ve represented my family and my country. I don’t politicize things; I do it because I love the game. This means a lot—five-time champions. Going around the Caribbean at 38 years old… but we’re still the laughing stock of cricket in the world.”
Pollard’s victory added another highlight to his already stacked career. Now with 18 T20 titles, he holds the record for the most by any player, surpassing his former teammate and TKR coach Dwayne Bravo’s 17. He also earned Player of the Tournament honors, racking up 383 runs in 11 innings at an average above 50 and a strike rate close to 175.
As for what’s next, Pollard stayed quiet on his playing future in the CPL. He’s already retired from the IPL and shifted into coaching, but he confirmed he’ll suit up for the upcoming ILT20 in Dubai.
“I can’t tell you the future. I can only deal with what’s in front of me,” he told Daren Ganga in a post-match chat. “I have a flight coming up, and I’m getting home to the kids. I’ve been on the road all year, so I owe them some time. Let’s see what happens. At the end of the year, I’ll still be playing in the ILT20—that’s the only thing I can say right now.”
