Indian CG donates books to Hong Kong Univ ahead of Hindi Diwas

Hong Kong’s Indian Consulate General is spreading the spirit of Hindi language and culture far and wide, just in time for Hindi Diwas. On Saturday, they donated 30 Hindi books to the Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). This thoughtful gesture draws from the Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the idea that the world is one big family.

The highlight? They kicked off the celebrations by inaugurating a special ‘Hindi Corner’ at the university. This cozy space aims to spark a real love for Hindi language, literature, and culture among students and faculty. As the consulate shared on X, “The celebrations began with the inauguration of the Hindi Corner, fostering appreciation for the richness of Hindi language and literature—echoing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”

Things got even more lively with heartfelt recitations. HKMU’s Dean and faculty members brought poems to life, including ‘Krishna ki Chetwani’ by the legendary Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and ‘The Gift of India’ by poet Sarojini Naidu. Everyone wrapped up the event on a delicious note, munching on authentic Indian snacks like crispy samosas and steaming masala chai.

Hindi Diwas falls on September 14 each year, marking the day in 1949 when India’s Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as the official language. It’s a vibrant celebration of Hindi’s role in connecting people and preserving cultural heritage.

The festivities aren’t limited to Hong Kong. Over in Doha, the Embassy of India joined the fun on Friday as part of the ongoing ‘Hindi Pakhwada’ events. The program buzzed with poetry readings, inspiring speeches, and colorful cultural performances, all highlighting Hindi as a bridge of unity and expression.

Even in Spain, the Consulate General of India in Barcelona made it a memorable day. Under Consul General Inbasekar Sundaramurthi, they hosted an event packed with motivational speeches, soulful songs, and exciting competitions. The Consul General emphasized how Hindi strengthens unity and shapes Indian identity.

These global Hindi Diwas celebrations show how the language continues to unite communities worldwide, blending tradition with modern vibes.
