President Droupadi Murmu greeted the Indian women’s cricket team, the champions of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. She praised the squad for making history and said they are role models for younger players across the country. She added that the team shows India’s diversity—“different regions, different backgrounds, but one team: India.”
During the visit, captain Harmanpreet Kaur presented a specially signed Indian jersey to the President. The team’s win over South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai gave India its first ICC trophy in women’s cricket.
Earlier that week, the squad met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his home on Lok Kalyan Marg. Modi congratulated the players, who wore their medals proudly, and praised their impressive comeback after losing three early games. He also thanked the support staff and received a signed jersey from the team.
The women’s side arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday night for the meeting with Modi, and celebrations continued at their hotel. Players Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and Sneh Rana danced to dhol beats while fans and staff cheered.
After the formal visits, the players and coaching staff will return home. Shafali Verma, who was named Player of the Match in the World Cup final, will head back to Nagaland to captain the North Zone side in the Inter‑Zonal T20 tournament.
The victory has sparked nationwide pride and highlighted the growing strength of Indian women’s cricket on the world stage.
