Bengaluru Torpedoes claimed the title of Volleyball League Season 4 on Sunday, beating Mumbai Meteors 15‑13, 16‑4, 15‑13 in the final held at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
The match started with both sides playing cautiously from the middle zone. Petter Alstad Ostvik blocked Mumbai’s Joel Benjamin early, while Bengaluru’s Jishnu answered with a block on Shubham Chaudhary. Bengaluru’s service pressure from Sethu pushed the match into a super point, but the Meteors fought back hard. Still, Bengaluru’s captain and setter Matt West delivered sharp sets that took the first set from Mumbai.
Sethu opened the second set with a powerful super serve, and a string of unforced errors from Mumbai helped the Torpedoes take control. Although Om Lad Vasant made great plays for his attackers, Shubham Chaudhary and captain Amit Gulia overhit their spikes. Joel kept hitting consistently, forcing Mumbai to struggle. Bengaluru finished the set with a crucial super serve from Joel and secured a two‑set lead.
In the third set, Jalen Penrose joined the attack with thunderous spikes, maintaining the momentum for the Torpedoes. Mumbai pressed back with Shubham leading the counter‑attack. Coach David Lee made a risky super point call that paid off, as Penrose hit the ball straight to the target. Even after Mumbai earned a super point of their own, the Torpedoes stayed composed and sealed the championship with a service error from Nikhil.
The Bengaluru Torpedoes stand out as the champions of this season, and the victory showcases Hyderabad’s growing role as a hub for top‑level volleyball competition.
