Punjab Police has rolled out a new toll-free helpline to help people fight back against organized crime. On Sunday, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav launched the anonymous reporting line, 1800-330-1100, in Chandigarh. This move follows directions from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to empower citizens and crack down on threats like intimidation, extortion, and gangster activities.
The helpline comes from the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF). It gives folks a safe, direct way to tip off authorities without revealing their identity. During the launch, Yadav tested the number himself with a trial call, chatting with the operator to check how it works.
In a video message, Yadav promised top-notch privacy for every call. “Your information stays confidential, and we’ll protect your identity,” he said. He urged Punjab residents to save the number and report suspicious activities fearlessly. “Let’s team up to make our state safer,” he added.
Yadav highlighted how tips from the helpline will spark quick, coordinated police action. The line runs under the close watch of Additional Director General of Police Promod Ban, head of AGTF, to follow up on leads fast.
Behind the scenes, the setup taps into the existing 112 emergency helpline network for smooth operations. But AGTF specialists handle these calls separately, stepping in personally and linking with local districts when needed. This tool lets the public play a key role in tackling organized crime in Punjab.
