PVL 2025: Bengaluru Torpedoes script comeback win over Kolkata Thunderbolts

Bengaluru’s Torpedoes edged past the Kolkata Thunderbolts in a back‑to‑back rally that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Over four sets at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, the Torpedoes came from behind to win 11‑15, 15‑13, 15‑11, 15‑11 and take a solid advantage in Season 4 of the Prime Volleyball League. Joel Benjamin lit up the court and earned “Player of the Match” honors.

The Thunders opened strong. Ashwal Rai and Matin Takavar set a high‑energy defense, and a rocket serve from Takavar early on gave Kolkata a narrow lead. The Thunder’s double‑man block line was hard to penetrate, forcing Bengaluru’s captain Matt West to rethink his attack angles. Still, the Thunders’ skilled net play kept the game close.

Bengaluru found rhythm in the second set. Jalen Penrose and Sethu sparked a comeback. Joel grabbed an ace after a key Kakadu point, and the scoreboard jumped back and forth. Suryansh Tomar tested the defense with high verticals, but the Torpedoes answered with power. Mujeeb’s timely block wiped out a set‑topping play from Kolkata, and Penrose’s monster serve added two crucial points late in the match.

Kolkata fought till the final rally, with veteran Pankaj Sharma keeping the Thunders in the game. Yet the Torpedoes’ aggressive attack and disciplined blocking turned the tide. The comeback drummed up excitement, with the final set sealed when Bengaluru slid into their second win of the season.

Earlier in the season, Bengaluru beat Goa 15‑9, 11‑15, 13‑15, 17‑15, 15‑9 in a hard‑fought game that tested the team’s resilience. Jalen Penrose was again named Player of the Match, while West’s set‑making prowess guided the attack.

The Thunderbolts, returning for their first match of the season, could pose a challenge with a deep offensive lineup and a drilled defense. With Colombian outside hitter Sebastian Gomez and Iranian middle blocker Matin Takavar joining forces, the team is expected to grow in aerial dominance and attack versatility.

Fans, keep watching the Prime Volleyball League, as Bengaluru and Kolkata continue to ignite the court with action-packed volleyball.
