The Bengaluru Torpedoes demolished the Ahmedabad Defenders in the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) 2025 semi‑final, winning 10‑15, 15‑11, 15‑13, 15‑13 on Friday night at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. Sandeep earned the Player‑of‑the‑Match award for his sharp passing and solid defense.
With the win, the Torpedoes move on to face the Mumbai Meteors in the PVL final, set for Sunday, 26 October, also at Gachibowli. Fans in Hyderabad and across India can expect an exciting showdown.
Bengaluru started the match fast. Jalen Penrose sparked the attack early, while Sethu steadied the team from the service line. When the Defenders began their counter‑attack, Nandhagopal helped open the field. A powerful block by Angamuthu tipped the balance in Ahmedabad’s favor, giving them a brief lead.
Bengaluru didn’t back down. Middle blocker Mujeeb answered back with strong spikes, easing Karachi’s pressure, and Sethu’s super serve shifted the momentum again. Penrose followed up with a cross‑body spike, leveling the score.
Sethu continued to exploit tiny gaps in the defence, and libero Midhunkumar made impressive saves on the backcourt. Captain Muthusamy’s smart play and middle‑court attacks kept pressure on Bengaluru. Penrose’s service pressure paid off, granting the Torpedoes two more points from a super serve. When Ahmedabad rallied, Jishnu’s block on Batsuuri helped the Torpedoes regain control.
Joel Benjamin’s smart moves against Akhin gave Bengaluru an advantage at a crucial point. Setter Sandeep executed precise passes, and Bengaluru neutralised Batsuuri, forcing the Defenders to change their attack strategy. Jishnu’s second block secured another super point, allowing the Torpedoes to seal the match. Joel’s final spike ensured Bengaluru’s spot in the final.
Meanwhile, in the other semi‑final earlier that evening, the Mumbai Meteors knocked out the Goa Guardians 15‑8, 15‑8, 16‑14. Shubham Chaudhary was named Player‑of‑the‑Match for his consistent hits and serves.
Goa started strong with Nathaniel Dickinson’s spike and Rohit Yadav’s powerful serves, but the Meteors’ disciplined teamwork out‑played them. Although Dickinson won the first super point, Mumbai’s formation and steady attacks pushed the match into their favour.
The PVL finals on Sunday promise a high‑stakes clash between Bengaluru and Mumbai, with the best teams in India vying for the championship title. Stay tuned for more updates from Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
