Hyderabad, Telangana – The Delhi Toofans kicked off the new season of the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia with a 15‑10, 16‑14, 17‑15 win over the Hyderabad Black Hawks at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. The match drew sports officials, including Sports and Youth Services Minister Vakiti Srihari and Telangana Sports Authority chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, who met the players before the game.
Carlos Berrios dominated the court, earning Player‑of‑the‑Match honors. He smashed powerful serves and scored key spikes against the Black Hawks while the Toofans’ captain Saqlain Tariq kept plays unpredictable. The Black Hawks struggled early, dropping three straight service errors. Hyderabad tried to rally with middle‑zone attacks from John Joseph, but unforced errors kept piling up.
The Toofans’ defense stayed tight, and Delhi’s libero, Anand, made crucial digs that turned the tide. In the middle set, Hyderabad pushed hard from the front court, but the Toofans answered with quick adjustments and relentless pressure, sealing a season‑opening victory.
Earlier in the day, Ahmedabad Defenders upset the defending champions Calicut Heroes 12‑15, 15‑12, 15‑12, 16‑14 at the same venue. Battur Batsuuri earned Player‑of‑the‑Match for his powerful plays. The Defenders set a strong two‑man block line against Calicut’s Angamuthu, while Batsuuri and teammate Nandhagopal delivered cross‑body spikes and a strong serve, keeping the scores close. Calicut’s Abdul Raheem and Santhosh battled back, but the Defenders’ defense and skipper Muthusamy Appavu’s tactical rallies helped secure the win.
