Hyderabad – The Prime Volleyball League match at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Sunday saw the Kochi Blue Spikers beat the Calicut Heroes 15‑13, 9‑15, 15‑8, 15‑13. Mouhsin Pa earned Player of the Match honors.
Kochi started aggressively, blocking the opening point to set the tempo. A powerful serve from Erin Varghese helped the Spikers pull ahead early, though Ashok Bishnoi of Calicut kept the pressure on. Hemanth’s quick spike secured the first set for Kochi.
Calicut rebounded with a strong counterattack. Captain Mohan Ukkrapandian and setter Shameem tightened up the middle zone, and Silva’s smart play pushed the Heroes back into the game. Yet Bishnoi covered much of the court and sparked a comeback that forced the Spikers into a tight match.
After adding blocker Amrinderpal Singh, Kochi re‑established control. Jasjodh Singh and Erin continued to apply pressure, while Calicut’s libero Mukesh delivered impressive defensive rallies. The Spikers seized the lead again, but Calicut’s Abdul Raheem kept the fight alive, pulling the game into a thrilling fifth set.
In the final set, Amal and Erin hit consecutive super points, narrowing the gap. Hemanth’s all‑round performance lifted the Spikers, culminating in an inspiring win that gave the Kochi Blue Spikers a hard‑earned victory in the Prime Volleyball League.
