Bengaluru Torpedoes kick off their Prime Volleyball League Season 4 campaign this Friday with an exciting matchup against newcomers Goa Guardians. The game takes place at the G.M.C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, and USA star Jalen Penrose says the team feels ready to hit the court strong.
Penrose, who snagged gold at the 2023 NORCECA Pan Am Final Six, joins a stacked lineup under captain Matt West and coach David Lee—an Olympic champion with plenty of winning wisdom. As PVL announced, the squad has gelled fast despite pulling players from all over.
“It’s amazing how this group clicked so quickly,” Penrose shared. “Bringing together talent from different backgrounds can be tough, but these guys are a blast. We crack jokes, keep it light, and everyone’s eager to learn. That vibe makes everything smoother and helps us level up as a team.”
He pointed to familiar faces and top-notch leadership as big boosts. “I jumped at this chance because I’ve teamed up with Matt West before—it just feels right. And coaching from David Lee? That’s gold. He’s dominated at the elite level, so there’s tons to soak up. For me, it’s about swapping stories and growing together; it works both ways.”
For the season ahead, Penrose keeps the focus simple: hustle hard, let wins follow. “Everyone’s gunning for trophies, no doubt. But the real key is pouring everything into every match. You might play great and drop a game, or stumble but pull out a win. As long as we give it all as a unit, the results will show up.”
The Torpedoes boast some sharp Indian talent too, like attackers Sethu TR and Joel Benjamin J, blocker Mujeeb MC, and seasoned libero Midhunkumar Balasubramaniyan. They’re slotted in Pool A with Goa Guardians, Chennai Blitz, Kochi Blue Spikers, and Kolkata Thunderbolts.
Their league schedule wraps up on October 22 against Mumbai Meteors. The top four teams from each pool advance to the semifinals, setting the stage for more high-stakes volleyball action in PVL Season 4.
