Asha Parekh visits Dharmendra’s house to offer condolences

Mumbai: Veteran actress Asha Parekh paid a visiting card at the home of the late Dharmendra on Wednesday, quietly offering her bereavement to his next of kin.

After Dharmendra’s passing, the whole film fraternity gathered at his Juhu bungalow to show their support. Earlier that Monday, Bollywood stars Ranbir Kapoor, his wife Alia Bhatt, and music director Anu Malik were seen at the same residence, standing in for the family.

Dharmendra had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai, but was released once his condition improved. He spent his final hours in his Juhu residence, where he had been on a ventilator due to breathing complications. Still, he died on Monday.

A legend in his own right, Dharmendra was born in 1935 in Punjab and broke into cinema in the early 1960s after winning a talent‑hunting competition. The Filmfare‑National Talent Quest, held in partnership with Bimal Roy Productions, sought fresh faces for Hindi films. Dharmendra claimed the 1958 title thanks to his striking appearance and natural charm—a triumph that launched multiple successful careers, including that of Rajesh Khanna.

From the outset, Dharmendra’s charm, emotional range, and effortless screen presence accelerated his rise. He conquered romance, action and comedy alike, with landmark films such as Phool Aur Patthar—which cemented him as a leading man—and Sholay, where his portrayal of the easygoing witty Veeru became an iconic moment.

The late actor was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third‑highest civilian award.
