BJP Leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar Slams Rahul Gandhi Over Shahid Afridi’s Praise
In a sharp attack, Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi praised him. Chandrasekhar said a person is defined by their enemies and known by their friends, pointing out that Gandhi’s "friends" include Pakistani figures like Afridi, whom he called a terror supporter and a "buffoon."
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Chandrasekhar urged Indians to ignore such voices from Pakistan. "Don’t make these jokers famous," he said. "My request to all Indians is—ignore them. They are just footnotes in the history that India is writing, shaping the world and our future." This came in response to Afridi’s reported comments, where he lauded Gandhi for wanting dialogue with Pakistan while criticizing the BJP-led government’s approach, even comparing it to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Chandrasekhar’s remarks highlight the ongoing political row between BJP and Congress over India-Pakistan relations and Rahul Gandhi’s stance on dialogue.
Other BJP leaders jumped in too. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya took to X (formerly Twitter) to call Afridi a "rabid Hindu-hater" who often spews venom against India and dreams of Kashmir joining Pakistan. "Suddenly, he’s all praise for Rahul Gandhi," Malviya wrote. "Why do every India-hater find a friend in Rahul Gandhi? When enemies of Bharat cheer for you, Indians know exactly where your loyalties lie."
The exchange has sparked fresh debates on social media about Rahul Gandhi’s Pakistan policy and BJP’s tough stand on cross-border issues. As tensions simmer, these comments show how cricket stars like Shahid Afridi can stir up big political storms in India.
