Mumbai, India – BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla shared exciting news on Sunday about a fresh lineup of candidates vying for the top spots in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Former cricketer Mithun Manhas has stepped forward with his nomination for the BCCI president’s role, filing it right at the headquarters.
Joining him is ex-Test player Raghuram Bhatt, who nominated for treasurer. Other key names include Prabhtej Bhatia for joint secretary, Arun Singh Dhumal to chair the IPL Governing Council, and Jaydev Shah as an apex council member.
Shukla broke it down for reporters outside the BCCI office, saying the panel features Manhas as president, himself as vice-president, Devajit Saikia as secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint secretary, and Raghuram Bhatt as treasurer. He added that nominations are in for the Apex Body Governing Council too, paving the way for a new leadership team. “Good wishes to all,” Shukla wrapped up.
When asked about the IPL chairmanship, Shukla confirmed Arun Dhumal will stick around in that role, keeping things steady for the popular Indian Premier League.
At 45, Manhas brings solid experience from his playing days with Delhi and later Jammu and Kashmir, where he also coached. If he wins, he’d join an elite club as just the third former cricketer to lead BCCI as president, following Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) backed Manhas’s bid, and he emerged as the top pick after Indian cricket’s bigwigs chatted informally on Saturday. The official reveal of this new BCCI panel comes after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28.
The president’s spot opened up when Roger Binny left in August 2025. Shukla handled interim duties while BCCI called for nominations to build the next committee.
Here’s how the BCCI election timeline shakes out: Nominations kicked off September 21, with a review and final candidate list dropping September 23. If a vote’s needed, it’ll happen at the AGM on September 28, shaping the future of Indian cricket administration.
