New Delhi, Oct 26 – A left‑arm pacer from Tamil Nadu struck a sensational hat‑trick, seizing the headlines in the Ranji Trophy’s Elite Group A clash against Nagaland in Bengaluru. Gurjapneet Singh blew away three batsmen in quick succession, taking Nagaland from a fragile 9/3 to a more solid stand before the match went to a Tamil Nadu‑controlled finish.
In the 6th over of the game, Gurjapneet dismissed Sedezhalie, Hem and captain R. Jonathan in three straight deliveries, leaving Nagaland looking shaky at 9/3. A few wickets later, he hurt Chetan Bist and tightened Tamil Nadu’s grip. With the hat‑trick, Gurjapneet became only the seventh bowler from the state ever to claim three wickets in a row in Ranji play, and the third in the current season after Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jangra of Services.
Nagaland hung on long enough to register a 119‑run partnership between D. Nischal and Yugandhar Singh, finishing their first innings at 150/4 and still 362 runs down on Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu had declared at 512/3, powered by Pradosh Ranjan Paul’s unbeaten 201 and a 124‑run stand with Andre Siddharth.
Other matches in the group added to the action. In Vizianagaram, baroda’s resilient 131 from Vishnu Solanki helped the team recover from 76/6 to 363 against Andhra. Andhra trailed by 320 runs at stumps, with left‑arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt taking two wickets.
In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh stitched an unbeaten 146‑run partnership for the 19‑run lead over Odisha. Jana‑def: 261/3 took the upper hand after Odisha’s 243.
In Nagpur, Jharkhand posted 332 after a solid 119‑run opening stand by Shikhar Mohan and Sharandeep Singh, but rain short‑cutted the day and put the match under a weather cloud for the next two days.
