Coimbatore, Oct 18 – Jharkhand rolled past defending champions Tamil Nadu by 114 runs in a powerful display at the TECA Stadium, with debutant spinners Rishav Raj and seasoned head‑batsman Ishan Kishan turning the tide in their favour.
Jharkhand posted 419 in their first innings, setting up a comfortable advantage. Early in the game, they bundled Tamil Nadu out for just 93, forcing the opposition to follow on. The victory was sealed after Tamil Nadu were dismissed for 212 in 79 overs on the final morning, giving Jharkhand a bonus point and a clear win.
Rishav Raj, 24, made his maiden first‑class appearance and finished with a tidy 4 for 49. The young off‑spinner broke the opening partnership, sweeping the teenage opener off the crease and later claiming key wickets that rattled Tamil Nadu’s batting lineup. His spell was a highlight of Jharkhand’s dominant bowling attack.
Ishan Kishan was named Player of the Match after smashing 173 runs in Jharkhand’s first innings. His aggressive innings set the tone and put pressure on the Tamil Nadu batsmen from the start. The senior captain worked in tandem with his bowlers, overseeing a well‑executed follow‑on and a quick finish in the fourth day.
Tamil Nadu’s only real resistance came from 19‑year‑old C. Andre Siddarth, who scored 80 off 180 deliveries and shared an 80‑run partnership with M. Shahrukh Khan. However, once Anukul Roy struck the wicket, the tail collapsed rapidly, and the team finished 212 in a single day.
Overall, Jharkhand’s performance was a blend of strong batting and disciplined bowling, while Tamil Nadu struggled with a collapse that saw them outworked on home turf. The win positions Jharkhand favourably for the next round of the Ranji Trophy Group A competition.
