Ravindra Jadeja joins elite list, completes unique double of 4,000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests

India’s all‑rounder Ravindra Jadeja reached a huge milestone in this week’s first Test against South Africa.
While batting for India at Eden Gardens, he crossed the 4,000‑run mark in Test cricket – a rare achievement that only three other players have matched.
Jadeja’s 10th run of the innings pushed him past 4,000 – the total that puts him in the elite company of Ian Botham, Kapil Dev and Daniel Vettori, all of whom have taken at least 300 wickets in their Test careers.
He is the second‑fastest to reach the mark, doing it in just 87 Tests, only behind Botham’s 72.
With six centuries and 27 fifties to his name, Jadeja is also a proven fighter. He has taken 331 wickets at an economical 25.25 average, and his 15 five‑wicket hauls show he can bowl for more than just a side.
The same day, Indian batsman KL Rahul also hit the 4,000‑run landmark, becoming the 18th Indian player to do so. Rahul was dismissed for 39 runs in the penultimate ball of the 40th over.
Rishabh Pant celebrated a new record too: he now holds the most sixes for India in Tests, with 91 shots over the boundary – beating former legend Virender Sehwag.
India’s first session finished 138/4, cutting the South African lead to 21 runs. The Test sees India look to chase a win from a 21‑run cushion, with Jadeja’s all‑round form giving the side confidence.
This long‑awaited milestone for Jadeja highlights why he remains one of the most valuable players in India’s cricket future.
