A retired Indian army general who’s seen action in Kashmir is urging fans to skip watching Team India’s matches as a tribute to the innocent lives lost in a brutal terror attack. Lt General KJS Dhillon (retd), who once led the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: “If you are watching @BCCI team’s matches… Please spare a thought for those innocent Indians murdered in cold blood at Pahalgam and those soldiers who laid down their lives fighting the Pakistani terrorists for you to live in peace & watch these matches at your homes. Just a thought please. I am boycotting the Asia Cup. Are you? Jai Hind.”
This call comes in memory of the horrific Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, where Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists gunned down 26 civilians in Kashmir’s scenic Baisaran meadow. Among the victims were 25 tourists and a local ponywallah, turning a peaceful spot into a site of tragedy.
The Pahalgam attack sparked nationwide outrage and pushed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to greenlight strong action from the armed forces. In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, hitting 12 terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Muridke near Lahore, and Bahawalpur. Pakistan fired back by targeting Indian civilian and military spots, but our forces hit back hard, destroying 18 of their military bases.
Cricket ties between India and Pakistan have been on ice since their last bilateral series in 2012-13, thanks to rising political tensions and security worries.
