Rishabh Pant will rejoin India’s Test squad for the two‑match series against South Africa starting on November 14 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Ajit Agarkar’s senior men’s selection panel met online on Wednesday, and the decision was clear: Pant, currently the vice‑captain, will return to the team. The final squad is expected to be announced in the coming days.
Pant missed India’s 2‑0 Test win over the West Indies because he was still recovering from a foot fracture sustained at the third Test against England in Manchester. He has now proven he’s fit again, leading India A to victory against South Africa A in Bengaluru. Pant scored 90 in the second innings and helped his side chase 275 before the clock ran out.
The other major change in the squad will be Kuldeep Yadav, the left‑arm wrist spinner, who will replace the released T20I player after the third match in Hobart. Shubman Gill (captain), Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar will also join freshly selected India after the last one‑day game in Brisbane on November 8.
India’s first Test will run from November 14‑18 in Kolkata. The second and final match will be played at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati from November 22‑26 – the city’s first Test venue. Both teams are in the World Test Championship, with India sitting third (61.9 %) and South Africa fifth (50 %).
After the Test series, India will face South Africa in three ODIs and five T20Is. Meanwhile, India A and South Africa A will contest a three‑match 50‑over series in Rajkot later this month.
