Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), steps up as the new chair of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s infrastructure committee. This comes right after the BCCI wrapped up its 94th Annual General Meeting on Sunday at its headquarters in Mumbai.
Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas took over as BCCI president, replacing Roger Binny. Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia held onto their spots as vice-president and secretary, respectively. Jaitley, who got re-elected as DDCA president in December last year with a strong 1,577 votes against 777 for ex-India player Kirti Azad, will lead the infrastructure team. He’ll focus on building fresh cricket grounds across India and upgrading the ones we already have. His committee includes Manhas, Shukla, Saikia, Prabhtej Bhatia, A. Raghuram Bhat, Anirudh Chaudhary, and Sana Sathish Babu.
The AGM brought in some fresh faces to key BCCI roles. Prabhtej Bhatia became joint secretary, while A. Raghuram Bhat took on treasurer duties. Jaydev Shah earned a spot as the General Body’s representative on the BCCI’s Apex Council. For the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council, Arun Singh Dhumal and M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar got elected as the two reps.
Cricket fans will be excited about the new selection committees too. Ajit Agarkar stays on as chair of the men’s senior selection panel, joined by Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, and former India stars R.P. Singh and Pragyan Ojha. On the women’s side, Amita Sharma steps in as the new chair, with Shyama Dey, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma, and Sravanthi Naidu rounding out the team.
The BCCI also set up a junior cricket committee, led by S. Sharath as chairperson. He’ll work with Harvinder Sodhi, Pathik Patel, Krishna Mohan, and Ranadeb Bose to nurture young talent.
Finally, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) committee got its lineup, headed by Jayesh George. It features Manhas, Shukla, Saikia, Bhatia, Bhat, plus Madhumati Lele, Sanjay Tandon, R.I. Palani, and Dhumal. These moves signal big changes for Indian cricket’s future, from stadium upgrades to team selections.
