Canberra, Oct 27 – Australia have added leg‑spinner Tanveer Sangha to their T20I squad for the upcoming series against India, as Adam Zampa will miss the opening games for family reasons.

Zampa’s wife, Harriet, is due to welcome the couple’s second child, and the veteran spinner left Perth after the third ODI at Sydney on Saturday. India beat Australia by nine wickets. He was unavailable for the first ODI, but returned for the matches in Adelaide and Sydney, even earning Player of the Match in Adelaide.

With Zampa’s future availability uncertain, the Board turned to Sangha, who was 23 when he made his T20I debut in 2023 and has taken ten wickets in seven appearances. He impressed in his first outing against South Africa with 4‑31 and collected seven wickets during the Australia A tour of India. At home, Sangha leads the New South Wales One‑Day Cup with 10 wickets in four games.

Australia may pair Sangha with left‑arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann in a twin‑spin attack, depending on the pitch. The squad will also rotate fast bowlers: Josh Hazlewood plays the first two games in Canberra and Sydney before leaving to focus on the Ashes, while Sean Abbott drops after the third match in Hobart.

Untried 20‑year‑old fast bowler Mahli Beardman will join from the third T20I onward, earning his first international cap. After the opening game at Manuka Oval, the series will continue in Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Full squad list: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Sean Abbott (units 1‑3), Mahli Beardman (units 3‑5), Ben Dwarshuis (units 4‑5), Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood (units 1‑2), Glenn Maxwell (units 3‑5), Tim David, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wicket‑keeper), Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe (wicket‑keeper), Matthew Short, Xavier Bartlett, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa and Tanveer Sangha.
