Wellington, Dec 12 – The national cricket board has named former New Zealand skipper Amy Satterthwaite, together with Anna Peterson and Sarah Tsukigawa, as the women’s pathway leads for Auckland, Canterbury and Otago. The decision is part of an effort to reinforce the development structures in each region.
All three managers will report to Sara McGlashan, the ex‑New Zealand women’s wicket‑keeper‑batter, who has taken on the overall leadership of the country‑wide pathway programme.
Following her appointment, McGlashan said: “From strengthening relationships with clubs and schools to driving high‑quality training environments, they’re helping create thriving pathways for young cricketers. Environments where players feel supported, inspired, and confident to push their potential is pivotal to their development.”
“Having three former players step into pathway manager roles is enormously valuable. Their experience allows them to connect with players in a way that truly accelerates development and inspires the next generation on where their journey in cricket can take them,” was added in an NZC statement released on Friday.
Amy, who captained the Black Caps and recorded 145 ODI and 111 T20I appearances before retiring in 2022, has since joined the Adelaide Strikers as an assistant coach in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Anna, who played 65 white‑ball internationals from 2012 to 2020, returned to the game after leading the Women and Girls Strategy at Auckland Rugby Union as Game Development Officer.
Sarah, with 61 caps between 2006 and 2011, previously served as selector and assistant coach for the Otago Sparks, giving her a deep understanding of the women’s game.
In addition, Luke Pomfret has become part of the Northern Districts pathway team, bringing his experience from stints with Middlesex and Northamptonshire in England. He will work alongside Jamie Watkins, who continues to steer the Central Districts programme.
