Zimbabwe’s cricket team shakes up its squad for the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Final by letting go of experienced batsman Sean Williams due to personal reasons. The 39-year-old, who’s scored 1,805 runs in 85 T20 internationals for Zimbabwe, steps aside, making way for young wicketkeeper-batsman Clive Madande.
Madande, just 24, brings fresh energy with 463 runs from 39 T20I matches. He joins the side right as Zimbabwe hosts this key tournament, where eight teams battle for two spots in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
The stakes are high: teams like Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe compete from now through the finals. The top two will head to the global event set for February and March 2026.
Zimbabwe kicked things off strong with a five-wicket win over Uganda. Their bowlers dominated—Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans each grabbed three wickets to hold Uganda to 152/9. Then, Brian Bennett fired up the chase with a blazing 72 off 44 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Zimbabwe reached 157/5 in just 17.3 overs, sealing the victory with 15 balls left. Williams sat out that match.
Fans remember Williams for his big moments, like earlier this year when he smashed his sixth Test century against South Africa. That knock tied him with Brendon Taylor and Grant Flower for Zimbabwe’s second-most Test hundreds—six each—behind Andy Flower’s record 12.
Here’s Zimbabwe’s updated squad for the T20 World Cup Africa Region Final: Sikandar Raza (captain), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Brad Evans, Trevor Gwandu, Clive Madande, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tashinga Musekiwa, Tinotenda Maposa, Tony Munyonga, Dion Myers, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Brendan Taylor.
