New Delhi, Oct 20 – West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph is out of the ODI series against Bangladesh after a shoulder injury was spotted in a first training session in Dhaka. The 26‑year‑old, who had flown in with the squad, was expected to return to One‑Day internationals for the first time since missing the Test tour of India earlier in the year. Instead, doctors now advise a specialist in England for rehabilitation.
CWI said the scan confirmed the discomfort and that Joseph must steer clear of both ODI and T20I matches. The loss comes at a time when the West Indies plan to level the three‑match series after a 74‑run defeat in the opening game on Oct 18.
To fill the gap, allrounder Akeal Hosein and left‑arm seamer Ramon Simmonds have been drafted into the ODI squad for the remaining two matches. Both were already earmarked for the T20I fixtures, so they will now stay on for the 50‑over games as well.
In a second setback, 23‑year‑old Jediah Blades was ruled out of the Bangladesh ODIs and the upcoming New Zealand tour after doctors diagnosed a stress fracture in his lower back. Blades will return home for treatment.
West Indies will look to bounce back in the second and third ODIs on Oct 21 and 23, hoping to even the series. The tour finishes with a three‑match T20I series, for which Hosein and Simmonds remain part of the squad.
The injury news lowers hopes of a swift comeback for Joseph, whose last competitive outing came in September during the CPL for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Fans now focus on whether the replacements can keep the West Indies competitive and whether Joseph will be fit for future tours.
