Rep. Nancy Mace’s ex files lawsuit claiming she falsely accused him of rape in plot concocted with friend’s estranged wife

In Charleston County, South Carolina, former congresswoman Nancy Mace faces a fresh lawsuit filed by her ex‑fiancé, Patrick Bryant. The complaint, filed Thursday, accuses Mace of staging a false sexual‑assault story to hurt him.

Bryant says Mace and a mutual friend, Eric Bowman, concocted a scheme that involved a woman—who once worked for him—by claiming she had seen a video of a gang‑rape on his phone. According to Bryant, Mace pushed the story on the woman and told her the video was real, naming several men, even though the girl said she had no memory of any incident.

The allegation comes after Mace’s explosive February speech on the House floor in which she named four men—including Bryant—as drug‑gals, molesters, and perpetrators who had filmed her. The speech sparked a wave of litigation. No criminal charges have been filed against the men Mace accused.

Bryant claims he is the sole victim and is suing for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He says the lawsuit is retaliation for statements Mace supposedly made in the House. In her response, Mace said that the court has already sanctioned Bryant for filing false subpoenas and that she will file a counter‑claim for abuse of process, conspiracy and additional attorney fees. She also noted she has “just got [Bryant] sanctioned in court.”

This new legal battle unfolds as Mace, a mother of two, begins campaigning for South Carolina’s 2026 gubernatorial race. The case illustrates the high‑stakes drama that can follow a congressional speech. The court is set to review Bryant’s claims and determine whether Mace’s allegations were truly fabricated or merely part of a legal strategy.
