India dominated Sri Lanka in their final Super Fours match of the Asia Cup in Dubai, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s explosive batting and strong support from the middle order. The team posted a massive 202/5, becoming the first to cross 200 runs in this year’s tournament and marking the second-highest total in Asia Cup history.
Abhishek led the charge once again, smashing 61 runs off just 31 balls. While captain Suryakumar Yadav struggled a bit early on, the middle order stepped up big time. Axar Patel finished unbeaten on 21, Tilak Varma made 49 not out, and Sanju Samson added a quick 39 to keep the momentum going.
Sri Lanka won the toss and asked India to bat first. Opener Shubman Gill got off the mark with a boundary but fell cheaply for 5 off Maheesh Theekshana’s spin. Abhishek, meanwhile, attacked from the start, hitting boundaries with ease. He reached his third straight fifty in the powerplay’s last over by smashing Nuwan Thushara for four.
India raced to 71/1 by the end of the powerplay. But soon after, Suryakumar Yadav (12 off 13) got trapped lbw by Wanindu Hasaranga while trying a sweep shot. The DRS confirmed the decision with three reds. Abhishek kept firing but holed out to deep mid-wicket off Charith Asalanka for his fiery 61.
Samson and Tilak then built a crucial 66-run partnership, mixing power and innovation. Samson hammered three sixes, including two in a row off Dasun Shanaka in the 16th over. But Shanaka got revenge, catching Samson at long-on for 39 off 23 balls.
Hardik Pandya, usually a finisher, started slowly and chipped a catch back to Dushmantha Chameera for 2 off 3 balls. Needing boundaries to push the score, Axar and Tilak accelerated. Axar sealed the innings with a huge six on the last ball, helping India reach that impressive 202/5 against Sri Lanka.
