India’s cricket team celebrated a historic ninth Asia Cup title on Sunday, stunning Pakistan in the 2025 final in Dubai. T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t stop praising his players after they beat their fierce rivals three times in one tournament—a first in cricket history.
The Men in Blue dominated Pakistan on three straight weekends. They chased down targets with ease: seven wickets in the group stage, six in the Super 4s, and five in the final. Suryakumar shared his excitement in a chat with Boria Majumdar on Revsportz. “Winning 3-0 was excellent. Incredible show from the boys,” he said. “They delivered what I expected. All the talks we’ve had in this team room worked out. I’m very happy. Never played them three times in a single tournament. It was destined to happen.”
Suryakumar kept it real about the India-Pakistan rivalry, which always grabs headlines in cricket. “Talking about it again and again will degrade its real essence,” he noted. “But we played good cricket, handled pressure better with bat and ball. That’s why we won. Our focus was winning matches and playing well. The trophy is a bonus—what matters is my country is happy, and we’re celebrating with billboards calling us Asia Cup champions. What more do you need?”
In the final, Suryakumar’s bowlers turned the game around on Dubai’s slow pitch. Pakistan raced to 113-1, thanks to an 84-run opening stand between Sahibzada Farhan (57 off 38 balls, with four fours and three sixes) and Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35, two fours and two sixes). But India’s spin trio struck back hard. Axar Patel took 2-26, Varun Chakravarthy grabbed 2-30, and Kuldeep Yadav shone with 4-30, combining for eight wickets. Jasprit Bumrah sealed it with 2-25 as Pakistan crumbled to 146 all out in 19.1 overs.
Varun broke the dangerous opening partnership by dismissing Farhan. Axar cleaned up the middle order, and Kuldeep tore through Pakistan’s big hitters. Suryakumar highlighted the bowlers’ role: “Batsmen score runs and win matches, but bowlers win tournaments. I told them to stay calm and relaxed under pressure. That energy and body language pulled the game our way. The last six to eight overs from Shivam Dube, Kuldeep, Varun, and Tilak Varma changed everything.”
India chose to field after winning the toss, and the bowlers delivered. In the chase, things got tense early—India slipped to 20-3 after Faheem Ashraf’s burst. But Tilak Varma steadied the ship with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls (three fours, four sixes). He partnered with Sanju Samson for 57 runs—Samson made 24 off 21 (two fours, one six). Shivam Dube added 33 off 22 (two fours, two sixes) to build on that momentum.
Rinku Singh, in his first Asia Cup game, sealed the five-wicket win with a boundary on the first ball of the final over. Suryakumar wrapped up by saying he’s focused on building strong players for T20 cricket, especially after absorbing those early batting setbacks with help from Samson, Tilak, and Rinku. This Asia Cup 2025 triumph cements India’s dominance in the India-Pakistan rivalry.
