India’s Under-19 cricket team delivered a powerhouse performance to crush Australia Under-19s by an innings and 58 runs in the first Youth Test at Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane. This win gives India a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, setting up an exciting finale.
Australia batted first and struggled, getting bowled out for 243. Fast bowler Deepesh Devendran starred with a five-wicket haul of 5-45, while left-arm seamer Kishan Kumar grabbed three scalps. Australia’s top scorer, Steven Hogan, fought hard with 92 runs off 246 balls, but it wasn’t enough to steady the innings.
India’s batsmen then took charge, racking up 428 runs for a massive 185-run lead. Opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi lit up the field with a stunning 113 off just 86 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes that thrilled the crowd. Vedant Trivedi followed with a solid 140, featuring 19 boundaries, to keep the momentum going. All-rounder Khilan Patel added a quick 49 off 49 balls at a strike rate of 100, sealing India’s dominant total.
In their second dig, Australia crumbled again to 127 all out. Kishan Kumar and Deepesh Devendran tore through the top order early, leaving the hosts at 24 for 3. Khilan Patel struck back with 3-19 in the middle order, and Deepesh wrapped things up with 3-16—his match figures of eight wickets proving decisive. Aryan Sharma’s gritty 43 from number nine offered some resistance, but Australia folded quickly.
India’s Under-19s now eye a series sweep when they face Australia again in Brisbane for the second Youth Test starting October 7.
