KIUG 2025: Cyclist Meenakshi Rohilla finishes with four golds as Guru Nanak Dev University takes top spot in medals tally

On Saturday, Jaipur hosted the final round of the fifth Khelo India University Games (KIUG 2025), a nationwide competition that draws athletes from 222 campuses across Rajasthan. The event ran through seven cities, with 4,448 participants competing in 23 medal‑earning sports under the patronage of the Sports Authority of India and the Rajasthan State Sports Council, and the Poornima University served as host.

Punjab university competitor Meenakshi Rohilla, representing Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), capped her campaign with an impressive haul of four golds and a silver. She secured gold in the women’s scratch race, winning 28:06.164, and took silver in the 3‑km individual pursuit. Her triumph came after earlier victories, such as the time‑trial and 80‑km road race, and a team pursuit win on the opening day, demonstrating her strong tactical sense and endurance.

GNDU’s overall performance was standout: with two additional golds in track cycling and three in skeet shooting, the university topped the medal table with 27 golds, nine silvers and ten bronzes. The overnight leaders from Jain University matched the gold and silver count but lagged by a single bronze, while Lovely Professional University finished third, collecting 22 gold medals.

In addition to Meenakshi’s successes, GNDU teammates Niya Sebastian and Ritesh Kaushik claimed the women’s and men’s 200‑metre sprint titles, respectively, pushing the university to second place overall with 26 golds. Shooting contenders Rituraj Singh Bundela and Shivani Raikwar delivered strong performances at the Jagatpura Shooting Range: the duo snatched the mixed‑team gold against Rabindranath Tagore University, and Rituraj also captured the individual skeet title and contributed to a team gold victory. Across pistol events, Simranpreet Kaur Brar of Panjab University won the women’s 25‑m pistol gold with a final score of 38, while Delhi University’s Parisha Gupta and Tejaswini secured silver and bronze, respectively.

Wrestling saw Lovely Professional University maintain its leadership with four golds and three silvers, even though the team did not secure any medals on the closing day. Chandigarh University’s Shivani Yadav lifted a record 188 kg in the women’s +86 kg category, and Kesav Bissa of Maharshi Ganga Singh University topped the men’s +110 kg board with a total of 352 kg.

Rugby gave Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology a clean sweep, winning gold in both men’s and women’s tournaments; in the women’s final, they beat Chandigarh University 17‑5 for a third straight title, while the men’s team seized their first KIUG gold with a 15‑10 triumph over Chandigarh.

Overall, the Games showcased a broad range of athletic prowess, with GNDU leading the chart in medals and several other universities making significant contributions across cycling, shooting, wrestling, rugby and weightlifting.
