Table tennis: China’s Wang, Sun pull out of WTT Champions Montpellier

Beijing (China) – The World Table Tennis (WTT) has confirmed that six top players will not compete in next week’s WTT Champions Montpellier. The withdrawals include China’s World No. 1s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, Lin Shidong, Liang Jingkun, Wang Manyu, and Japan’s Shunsuke Togami. These players were key to China’s recent double win at the ITTF‑ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships in Bhubaneswar, India.

Wen Ruibo will replace Liang Jingkun in the men’s singles draw. The tournament runs from October 28 to November 2 at the Sud de France Arena in southern France, followed immediately by the WTT Champions Frankfurt 2025 from November 4–9.

This back‑to‑back pair marks the final sprint of the WTT Series season. Every match point matters, as athletes vie for world‑ranking points, bragging rights, and a spot in the WTT Finals in Hong Kong next year. In Montpellier, the field will also feature France’s rising stars Felix and Alexis Lebrun, alongside veteran Simon Gauzy. Young prospects Jia Nan Yuan and Prithika Pavade will headline the action.

Montpellier has quickly become a fan favourite – a venue where every rally crackles and the crowd turns each match into a theatrical showdown. The event promises high‑stakes tennis, intense competition, and plenty of excitement for table‑tennis enthusiasts around the globe.
