Teen pacer Hamilton wins WBBL young gun award, Lanning takes Golden Bat honour

Melbourne: the hometown left‑arm pace bowler Lucy Hamilton has been chosen as the winner of the WBBL season 11 Young Gun Award, while former Australia captain Meg Lanning grabbed the Golden Bat trophy for the third time.

Lucy will join the Delhi Capitals squad for the 2026 WPL season. In the current WBBL season she led Brisbane’s opening‑ball attack, taking eight wickets and posting her best figures of 2‑28 at a time when the team faced some tough challenges.

Having captained Australia at the Under‑19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia, Lucy picked up the wickets of Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath during her campaign.

Meg, who has played for Melbourne Stars and will represent UP Warriorz in the 2026 WPL, topped the run‑scoring charts once again, amassing 430 runs at an average of 53.75. She hit a career‑best 135 off 74 balls against the Sydney Sixers.

Australia’s leg‑spinner Georgia Wareham, set to turn out for Gujarat Giants next year, finished with her best ever tally in the league, snaring 19 wickets at an average of 10.94 for the Melbourne Renegades, earning the Golden Arm award.

“Our congratulations go to each of Lucy Hamilton, Meg Lanning and Georgia Wareham for their stellar campaigns which have earned them the awards announced today. As we begin what will be an unforgettable final week of WBBL|11, it is fantastic to be acknowledging our best emerging and established players for their on‑field feats.”

“While all three players have enjoyed fantastic individual seasons, two represent WBBL sides that fell short of Finals action, demonstrating just how close and high quality the entire competition is,” said Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager, Big Bash Leagues.

The WBBL season 11 Player of the Tournament will be announced on Wednesday, followed by the Release of the Team of the Tournament on Thursday. The three‑match finals series kicks off Tuesday night with the Perth Scorchers taking on the Melbourne Stars in a knock‑out at the WACA Ground.

Sydney Sixers will wait for the winner of that clash before their Thursday challenger match at North Sydney Oval, after which the Hobart Hurricanes will host the final and face the challenger winner at the Ninja Stadium on Saturday.
