Yokohama, Oct. 12 – The Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama was a tournament that saw a dramatic finish for several top players, but the headline winner was the American golfer Xander Schauffele.
Schauffele rolled a 64 in the final round for a score of 19‑under‑265, edging out American Max Greyserman by one shot for the title.
Schauffele, who also took gold at the Tokyo Olympics and won the 2024 Open Championship, has strong ties to Japan. His mother grew up there, and his wife Maya and their new baby son celebrate Japanese heritage every week. The golfer’s connection to the country made the win feel even more special.
Greyserman finished second with 65 in the last round, keeping pace with Schauffele for the first three days before the leader’s sudden shift in the final round. American Michael Thorbjornsen took third place, shooting a 64 and remaining three strokes behind the winner.
Sahith Theegala, once a PGA Tour champion, captured early attention when he briefly led the third round, but a final round of 72 pulled him down to a tie for 27th place. Theegala posted solid scores of 68‑67 in the opening days before faltering with 70‑72 to end 7‑under‑277 at Yokohama Country Club.
The Baycurrent Classic delivered excitement in Yokohama, showcasing the depth of American talent and the growing global reach of the PGA Tour.
