The Boxing Federation of India is stepping up its game to nurture young talent and sharpen skills for top boxers. They’re launching the first-ever BFI Cup 2025 in Chennai from October 1 to 7, giving elite men and women a prime stage to compete.

This new tournament covers 10 weight categories for both men and women, matching the standards set by World Boxing. Gold and silver winners will earn a direct shot at the Elite National Camp, turning it into a key domestic event for Indian boxing hopefuls.

“Indian boxing is on the rise, and we’re all about putting athletes first—it’s already paying off,” said BFI President Ajay Singh in a recent press release. He added that the BFI Cup 2025 will let young boxers break into the national scene while helping established stars fine-tune their training. Plus, it gives the federation a fresh look at emerging talent.

Who can join? State units or boards that ranked in the top eight at the 8th Elite Nationals get to send one boxer per category. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence and host state Tamil Nadu are also in. Beyond that, spots open up for competitors from the last two Elite National Championships, Indian team members from the 2024 and 2025 Asian U-22 Championships, medal winners at international events since 2022, those from the Goa and Uttarakhand National Games, and top performers at the 6th Youth Nationals. All entries must go through official state or unit channels.

The timing couldn’t be better for Indian boxing. Just recently, the country grabbed two golds, a silver, and a bronze at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, UK—their strongest showing ever on foreign soil. India is also set to host the World Boxing Cup Finale later this year, building on successful rounds in Brazil and Kazakhstan. Events like the BFI Cup are fueling this momentum and spotlighting the future of boxing in India.
